River surfing offers many advantages over surfing in still waters. Since the river is a flowing body of water, you already have a pleasant speed under the surfboard, so that the first surfing attempts are much easier than on the sea or behind the motorboat. This makes it very easy to get started in surfing.
Zero emissions
Surfing on the river goes hand in hand with zero CO2 emissions. On the lake, this is only possible with an elaborate construction (wakeboard facility) or surfing behind the motorboat. However, this is associated with emissions. With river surfing, only a rigid rope or a a bungee cordand a surfboard, and you're ready to go. Various new systems (electronic winch, Up Stream Rope Pully System) have made river surfing even more attractive and diverse. And it is still emission-free.
Effort
River surfing requires a backpack for the rope and equipment, a surfboard, 2 surf buddies and you are ready to go. All river surfing systems are installed between 2-15 minutes, so the time can be used exclusively for surfing.
Expenses
If you have your own equipment for River surfing (bungeerope & surfboard), this is probably the cheapest option for surfing all year round in Switzerland. Even cheaper are the natural river waves, but these can only be surfed in spring or after heavy rainfall. Alternatives are paid options such as wakeboard facilities, wave parks, artificial river waves or surf sessions on the lake.

Switzerland has definitely arrived as a surfing nation. There is a wide range of surfing options and we welcome this. Since every wave, every body of water and every system works differently, it is very difficult to say what is best. This is in the eye of the beholder and it is exactly this variety that makes surfing.
