Location: Obere Allmend, 5620 Bremgarten (47.356189, 8.340840)
River: Reuss
Entry on the right: The entry point is right next to the wave. There is a stone slab in the water on which you can walk right up to the wave and then enter the wave lying down. (You will certainly not be the only one there. Watch and copy).
Entry Left: Jump into the Reuss about 200 metres above the wave and then paddle to the other side of the wave. It is best not to drift through the wave (there could be surfers surfing), but to get to dry land on the back of the island.
Exit: There are many exit points on the right side. Even if you surf on the left side of the wave, there are plenty of exit points. If you fall off the surfboard after you have finished surfing (on the left side), wait until the biggest waves have passed, pull onto the board and paddle over to the right side. From the little wooden hut onwards there is a pleasant reflux where you don't even have to paddle anymore 😉 The water is very clean.
Flow rate: Station 2018 (Reuss - Mellingen), surfable from 200 m3/s, functions optimally from 250 m3/s, too large from approx. 400 m3/s. https://www.hydrodaten.admin.ch/de/2018.html
Suitable surfboards: River surfboards, surfboards with a wide tail, surfboards with a lot of volume
Obstacles: Turbulent waves behind the surfable wave. At high tide it is not uncommon for a whole tree to float down the river. Fortunately, it is almost always in the middle and not on the sides of the wave where you surf. Nevertheless, keep your eyes open.
Special features: If kayakers are present, please give way as the wave is maintained and used for training by the kayak/canoe club. However, we have never seen one. It is advisable to tie the leash (if surfing with a leash at all) to the board with a cable tie. If you are pulled under the water surface, the cable tie can break and save your life in an emergency.
